As a motivational speaker as well as an author do you normally consider challenges your reading audience to make positive changes in their lives? Why is it important?

— When I write, speak, or make videos, I feel my mission is to only share my experience, that’s it. We are all different, and some things that work for some of us, don’t work as well for others, and that’s ok. But by sharing my zeal for life and healthy living, hopefully it will inspire others to challenge themselves in ways that benefit them.

In each book or endeavor do you strive to convey living your life’s purpose?

— My recipe books aren’t so much guide books as they are tools to make this lifestyle feasible. Sometimes we can complicate things so much that we lose interest quickly. My idea is to create tools that will be used, not glanced over. Recipe books that gear towards quickly and simple 10 min recipes, in people’s minds, that works.

What common thread has been omnipresent in what every project you’ve been involved in?

— They are all birthed from a place of love. My desire to continue to inspire others and I continually improve myself. I left a great job behind to pursue my passion, not just for helping others lose weight or get in shape, but to have an overall better life. That is the takeaway from all this.

In your new book “Raw Food Salad Bar” you provide background to the ingredients you use in your recipes and their health benefits why was it important to you to do this?

— When I first went raw I only ate a handful of vegetables. To be honest the idea of me being a vegetarian was the farthest from my mind. I hadn’t heard of kale, arugula, shittake, and a hundred other fruits and vegetables that were so common for others. So the things like lettuce, I skipped the description on, but some of the others do get showcased.

You included one recipe in particular “Sweet Chipotle Marinated Mushroom Steak over Mixed Greens” which was a great way to overcome the whole “salad is not filling” factor. Was that your intent in juxtaposing those elements to readers?

—Even though salads do tend to be a large part of this lifestyle, they sure don’t have to be boring. With a couple creative twists we can turn the blasé into bountiful. Many new to raw food, especially men, feel that they won’t be satisfied with meals that aren’t hearty enough. With this recipe I show that you can have your salad, and be satisfied too.

What would you like people to know about Raw Food cuisine that you think people hold as a misconception?

— So many people think they are going to be stuck having green juice all day, and carrot sticks for snacks. The raw food lifestyle is so much more than that. I can honestly say I have never felt hungry or deprived while eating this way, but rather happy and thriving. Not only does your skin clear up and your energy go through the roof, but also your weight normalizes and your happiness level are off the charts.
